I grew-up working the trades in the family paint contracting business. Visiting and later working in some of Toronto’s prestigious neighbourhoods, transforming the interiors and exteriors of countless custom homes over the years.
Always curious and open to learning. Academically, it was likely that I studied interior design for a brief term, as well as journalism, recording arts management, psychology and spiritual psychotherapy.
Seeking more tangible, evidence-based knowledge, while studying practical nursing and earning a certificate in mental health and addictions, I earned a degree in social work.
During the pandemic, I pursued real estate and qualified for license. Subsequently, becoming a broker.
While working precarious jobs between classes, clients, having a life and managing a part-time private counselling and holistic practice, I connected with a lot of people. Although I was broke doing it. I enjoyed living the bohemian life in the yet to be gentrified neighbourhoods of the city, meeting some very talented people.
What I learned about living frugally, being resourceful and creative was worthwhile.
This was by far the reason why? I continued to pursue opportunities to meet, work with, study under and work for what I regard today as my teachers, noble adversaries and friends.
On the creative side, I still sketch free hand. It’s how I did well in anatomy and physiology class. Architecture, nature, and landscapes is where I first earned the arts and drama award in grade school. I’ve explored different mediums, mixed-media, watercolour, sculpture and acrylics on canvass. As a contractor, feature finishes including epoxy, venetian plaster methods and techniques are new additions to the repertoire of what is possible.
The business of being a real estate broker is dynamic. I have a unique privilege. Over the years, I forfeited the trophy automobile for education and experience. When I lived in the downtown core, I always either walked or biked. Within 5-15 minutes I was there and it worked for that time.
Today, Toronto has become along a continuum at one extreme, policed poverty and displacement to decadent wealth inaccessible to most. That aside, a beautiful city still finding an identity with buildings, space, histories and innovations we continue to learn about. We are indeed a world class city. It’s my home and can also be yours.
Interest rates likely to drop. Variable vs. fixed a matter of context, always speak to a pro. Manage debt. Holding makes sense in the freehold space. Condos ample inventory. Explore options, commissions are always negotiable. Always seek legal advice.
